Five Chinese mainland companies have been selected as this year's top 100 global Innovation institutions, according to a report released on Feb 23.The five Chinese mainland companies are Ant Group, Alibaba, Huawei, TCL and BOE, along with other tech companies such as Intel and Hewlett-Packard.

This year's list of the world's top 100 innovators comes from 12 countries and regions.Among them, Japan has the largest number of institutions on the list with 35, followed by the US with 18, Taiwan with 9, Germany with 9, France with 8, mainland China with 5 and South Korea with 5.The five Chinese mainland companies on the list are Ant Group, Alibaba, Huawei, TCL and BOE.

Regionally, Asia plays a dominant role in the global innovation landscape.According to the report, more than half (54) of this year's Global Top 100 innovators are from Asia, indicating the region's growing position on the global innovation stage as a pioneer of global innovation excellence.

In terms of sectors, the electronics and computing industries have a strong presence in the global innovation landscape, with the largest number of companies making the top 100 this year, with 28 companies, 26 of which are from Asia.Among them, TCL and BOE have become global leaders in the field of new displays in the electronic information industry.

In recent years, TCL has transformed itself into an intelligent high-tech industrial group and established a global R&D system.From 2016 to 2020, TCL invested 31.36 billion yuan in R&D, with year-on-year growth of 24.5 percent in 2019 and 36.5 percent in 2020.In the first three quarters of 2021, TCL invested 10.29 billion yuan in R&D.

BOE continues to invest a high proportion of its operating revenue in R&D every year. By 2021, BOE(BOE) has accumulated more than 70,000 independent patent applications. Among the annual new patent applications, over 90% are invention patents and 35% are overseas patents, among which OLED, sensing, artificial intelligence, big data and other fields account for more than 50%.Covering the United States, Europe, Japan, South Korea and other countries and regions.

Boe and TCL Huoxing ranked seventh and eighth respectively in the 2021 PCT international patent application ranking list released by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
